What is the California Voter Registration Form?

The California Voter Registration Form or the Voter Registration California Form is a document issued by the state of California available to all citizens who want to register their names in their County Elections Office. Much like all Voter Registration Applications, this form requires you to meet the same general requirements as all voter registration applications. This is as follows:

  • You are an identifiable citizen of the United States

  • You are 18 and above.
  •

Many states require their citizens to register for voting as soon as they turn 18, California is no exception. Furthermore, California also allows citizens of ages 16 and 17 to pre-register to vote, assuming that they will be 18 by the time the next election occurs. However, all registrations must be submitted to your respective county elections offices 15 days before the election as per the state law of California.

However, new voters are not the only ones that should use this California Voter Registration Form. This form can also be used by people who have legally changed their name as they require a new voter ID. It can also be used by people who have recently moved to California and need to get their own voter’s license to vote in their new state of residence. Finally, the form can also be used by people who want to change their political party preference or any other information within their previous registration as all information within the registration must be correct.

The California Voter Registration Form cannot be submitted online. To submit this document, you will need to mail it or deliver the document in person to your nearest county elections office. There is also the option for online registration, however, that process does not include using the California Voter Registration Form.

When registered, California state law does not require first-time voters to show any identification when they go to vote if they have already inputted an identification number such as a driver’s license number, state identification number, or Social Security number on their Voter Registration Form. If they did not do that, they will be asked for some identification when they vote for the first time, which the county elections office will record, removing the need to ask for identification the next time that certain voter participates in the election.
