What is Form DA 5960?

Form DA 5960 is a document used to start, adjust, or terminate a military member's entitlement to Basic Allowance for Quarters (BAQ) and or Variable Housing Allowance (VHA).

What is BAQ?

Basic Allowance for Quarters (BAQ) refers to the allowance of a soldier or military member whose duty is not on the government quarters. It is used to pay a soldier's entire housing costs based on his or her type of quarters.

 

BAQ is previously known as Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH).

 

What is VHA?

Variable Housing Allowance (VHA) refers to the allowance or housing compensation paid to soldiers or military members residing in high-cost housing areas.

 

Soldiers or military members are compensated with VHA based on their pay grade, dependency status, and duty station or location.

 

How to file Form DA 5960?

Submit the accomplished Form DA 5960 to your unit personnel action or human resources office. You may include other supplementary documents to certify your application.
